Steel Mill Workers

In steel mills, workers often encounter extremely hot substances. Until the 1980s, asbestos was used as an insulator in materials subject to this extreme heat; and even today, when asbestos is no longer used in steel manufacturing, many older mills still contain asbestos. As a result, steel mill workers were and still are at high risk of occupational asbestos exposure. And unfortunately, asbestos is the link between steel mill workers and mesothelioma. The occurrence of mesothelioma in steel mill workers is much higher than among workers in other trades.

It’s easy to see why: asbestos exposure and steel mill workers go hand in hand, since the toxic substance was found in cement, insulation, and practically all the equipment steelworkers used, including the cloth used to make protective clothing, gloves, aprons, coveralls, and face masks. And when these materials became worn, ripped or torn, they tended to crumble into the deadly asbestos dust that forms the prime cause of mesothelioma in steel workers.

If you are a steel mill worker with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to compensation for the injuries you have suffered due to occupational asbestos exposure.
