Stage IV
In Stage IV TNM mesothelioma, the disease is spreading uncontrollably, affecting the organs of the entire body. The lymph nodes in the chest on the side opposite that of the primary tumor have begun to become affected, along with the pleura, the lung on the opposite side and often the peritoneum. Tumors may appear in the abdominal cavity or neck as well. In Stage IV TNM mesothelioma, the disease is spreading uncontrollably, affecting the organs of the entire body. Stage IV of the TNM mesothelioma staging system is characterized by the evidence of distant metastases, spread by malignant cells in the bloodstream to all parts of the body. The growth of the cancer in the body as a whole defines TNM Stage IV mesothelioma.
