Neighborhoods Near Manufacturing Plants
Asbestos is frighteningly pervasive. So tiny are fibers of asbestos that they can easily “hitch a ride” from a contaminated workplace, traveling home with the exposed worker and causing his or her family members to develop mesothelioma. Research shows that neighborhood asbestos exposure can pose a serious risk to residents within a relatively large vicinity. A recent study conducted by two university researchers in Japan investigating mesothelioma in neighborhoods examined the degree of risk posed to residents living near a large asbestos cement plant. Research shows that neighborhood asbestos exposure can pose a serious risk to residents within a relatively large vicinity. A recent study conducted by two university researchers in Japan investigating mesothelioma in neighborhoods examined the degree of risk posed to residents living near a large asbestos cement plant.
The study revealed that people living downwind of the plant had a far higher rate of mesothelioma than those living in other areas adjacent to the facility, with the area of increased risk factor extending for more than a mile away from the plant. The researchers concluded that “neighborhood exposure to asbestos can pose a serious risk to residents across a wide area.”
If you or someone you love has mesothelioma and lives near an asbestos-contaminated facility, you may be entitled to compensation from the parties responsible for your neighborhood asbestos exposure.
